September 12: A Four-Mantis Day! [+ bees]

I don't have a lot of backlogged posts (or at least not many I remember wanting and failing to make, lol), but here's one:

We had a four-mantis day at the park! That is the highest number of mantises spotted in one day this year, for me.

Mantises #1 and #2, helping to make next year's crop. :) (I hope he survived.)

Not a mantis, but a bumblebee. She had extremely shiny wings!

Mantis #3!

And mantis #4!

A honeybee.

A whole pile of ambush bugs.

Someday I will get an actually good picture of one of these green sweat bees. So green!

I love all the purple and all the bees! The praying mantises are lovely!

Random thing but you'll laugh. I follow this FB about surviving narcissists, and one day they posed this to the group: Your ex comes back as an insect in his/her next life as a show for what harm they did. You get to choose what kind of insect. What is that insect? I and two or three other people all said, "Male praying mantis."

I'm LOLing at myself because I looked at that first pic and thought, wow, that is a huge mantis, and why is he laying on his back?!! Then I read your comment and realized, oh, two mantises, and ~that's why the one is on its back. *g*

Bugs and bees! Great pictures.

The female mantis needs a bunch of protein from somewhere!
