This black widow set up camp in my mom's kitchen. She's since been relocated outside. A young one; not juvenile any longer, but not old enough to take on the classic "widow" shape, yet.


An adorable chickadee.


On Thursday we had a partial lunar eclipse. It wasn't terribly dramatic, but was even less so on camera, haha. You can just see that the top looks a little obscured. (It really was more obvious than this, though.)

Alex took Cy out on Friday morning and there was a katydid hanging out, so he sent me a picture, ha.


A cute pit bull sticker. It makes me think of Bella. :)
There was another, bigger sticker of a different pit bull that I assume was by this same artist stuck to a street sign a few months ago, but it's long gone and I never got a picture.

Oh wow! Very cool black widow. But also yikes. LOL But still pretty...but pretty yikes.

Those are chickadees? I always call them sparrows around here. We have tons of them. And that is a cute sticker!

The black widow is neat! I was hoping we could catch her and maybe keep her as a pet (I occasionally took care of a couple when I interned at the Butterfly Pavilion), but mom just relocated her outside, which is also fine for her. May she have a long life, not putting any people or little cats at risk.

Chickadees and sparrows are pretty similar in size, and both have some black on their heads:

House sparrows have more brown, with some grey and black. More chirpy calls. Common in really big flocks.


Black-capped chickadees have more grey and the black is a cap on their head. Occasional whistles and a call that does sound like "chick-a-dee-dee-dee". Sometimes in groups, but often solitary or in pairs.

I love the sticker! I wish I'd been able to get a picture of the big one on a sign.
