Habit Tracking: Week 44 (October 27 - November 02)
Not quite a traditional Halloween palette, but I am never going to use up this Halloween washi tape, ha.
This week was mildly disappointing. I was very excited to have a whole week off of work, but feel like I largely wasted it. Not completely, and I did do some fun things: hung out with Taylor, went to a haunted house, went to a model show. But overall, most days were just running errands. I didn't even get much done in the way of the at-home stuff I'd hoped to. It could be just some internal mood downswing stuff. Both katydids also passed away this week (one at the start, one at the end) and that was a bummer.
Goals for the week:
- I did hang out with Taylor
- We went to The 13th Floor haunted house
- We prepped for the model show
- We went to said model show on Saturday
- Halloween did happen
- I watched Over the Garden Wall
- I cleaned out the katydid cages
- I cleaned out Berry Mad's habitat
- I finished outlining an original fic
- I did not do my planned character refresh for a fic
- I started writing the Angels and Demons AU
- I did not do my GYWO check-in
- I paid rent and car insurance
- I read more of Acceptance
- I did not update my reading page
- I started on researching local ballot issues
- I did not water my plants
- I did put my laundry away
- I did not set up my new phone
- I did not do my November tracking grids
- I did not update my pinboards
- We did not go do more laundry
Tracked habits:
- Work - 1/7 - took the week off!
- Household Maintenance - 6/7
- Physical Activity - 4/7
- Wrote 500/1000+ Words - 2/7 - both over 1000 words
- Wrote on 2nd+ Draft - 0/7
- Meta Work - 3/7
- Personal Writing - 2/7
- Other Creative Things - 2/7
- Reading - 6/7 - mostly reading Acceptance, though Taylor and I started reading The Innocent Sleep, and I started an ebook
- Attention to Media - 5/7 - Monday I listened to some music; Tuesday I don't remember; Wednesday we watched some storm chasing and some Parks and Rec; Thursday we watched Smile, an ep of Abbott Elementary, and then more Parks and Rec in the background; Saturday we watched an ep of Great British Bake Off.
- Video Games - 2/7 - Taylor and I played more Final Fantasy XIV, finishing Part 3 of Stormblood, playing the alliance raid series of the expansion ("Return to Ivalice"), and starting Part 4.
- Social Interaction - 5/7

I started it mainly because I wanted to track how much writing I was doing, and also how my time WAS being spent, when it felt like I was getting nothing done. I do the weekly layout of the twelve specific habits I track, plus a list of everything I hope to work on or get done in that week. The rest of the two-page layout is just day-by-day journal entries about what happened or what I did or how I felt. I put in stickers or washi tape or doodles and pick my color scheme to match, because that gives me a little boost of enjoyment.
I've liked keeping it! I've done it for a few years now, and it's helped me in terms of emotional ups and downs (when I have a low swing, it often feels like I've *always* felt that way, and having a place to look back and see that isn't true has been helpful.) It also lets me see when I've neglected a certain hobby or responsibility for some length of time, and helps me reprioritize.
I definitely think a weekly spread is more helpful than a monthly one, at least for how I use it. I've tried also doing monthly pages, but so far I've never ended up using them, so I'll probably abandon that for 2025.

I'm not always great at staying on top of mine... I often get behind by a few days and then have to do my best to catch up and remember what was done on what day.
