Camp Nano:
Aug. 1st, 2021 07:04 pmYesterday was the last day of this session of Camp NaNoWriMo. I'd set myself a low-ish goal for the month: 20000 words, split between two current WIPs - Connections of the Heart, and Step Right Up.
And I succeeded! I hit my minimum wordcount every day to stay on track (645 words), and usually managed more than that. (Not often a LOT more - no standout 5000+ word days this time around or anything.)
Beyond the wordcount goal, I did manage to make progress on my "real" goal, which was just to make progress on the two fics.
I'm happiest with the progress on Step Right Up. This is the mermaid AU that I posted chapter one of on May 31. I estimated it would be 3 total chapters, and that is what I wound up with! I completed the rough drafts of both chapters 2 and 3, and have started on the second draft of chapter 2, which should hopefully be the easiest thing to get fixed up to post.
I also made a fair amount of headway on Connections of the Heart. I'm less satisfied with it, though. I stalled out in chapter 2, and had to just throw in filler to get past it, lol. It'll definitely take some fixing. I'm also just... less enamored with the story than I'd hoped. I'm not sure that there's really as much tension as I want there to be, and I can't tell if it's because I chicken out about stuff (it's heavy on original characters, which I don't usually do, and I second-guess some plot choices), or what. It's definitely sprawled a bit longer than intended, and the hoped-for 4 chapters is going to probably be 6. I don't want to make it *longer*, so gonna just try to power through it, heh.

But here's my chart! The dashed diagonal line was the per-day goal. The darker line is my actual progress. And I finished up with 23776 words for the month!
Trying to decide if the laziness will win out and let me break my streak tonight, or if I'll try to keep the momentum up. :P
